Landscaping for the Residence at Thayer Avenue
This summer, E-Landscape was proud to be selected to carry out landscape installation work for the Residence at Thayer Avenue project in Silver Spring, Maryland. In recent years, downtown Silver Spring has undergone a major revitalization with an explosion of new office buildings, shopping opportunities and theaters popping up. In parallel with this, a number of new housing projects are underway. The Residence of Thayer Avenue is an $18 million acquisition and new construction of 52 one and two bedroom affordable housing units. Construction began in June and is expected to take 13 months.
The project is led by Landex Development and the Warrenton Group in conjunction with Sorg Architects and Hamel Builders. Because of regulations mandating that 20 percent of the project’s area be developed as public-use space, the proposed condos would be set back 17 feet from Thayer Avenue, allowing for a 4,2620-s.f. public plaza. The landscape design, by VIKA landscape architects, integrates an urban retail feel with the appropriate scale of the adjacent residential community with plans for trees and other greenery, game tables, and two county-mandated art projects.
