The Asher is a luxury apartment community in Alexandria, Virginia’s Old Town neighborhood. It is the first residential development in Alexandria to receive LEED Silver certification due to its many green building and design features.
Designed by Lessard Urban and developed by Erkiletian, The Asher features 206 apartment residences, a state of the art business and fitness center, rooftop terraces, a landscaped plaza and underground parking, all within steps of a Metro stop. A redevelopment of an existing site, The Asher offers energy-efficient appliances, an extensive water-saving system, an advanced waste management system, and other features designed to help its residents save money and preserve natural resources.
E-Landscape’s scope of work included the installation of site furnishings, planting, structural soil mixes, irrigation, sub drainage, and the construction of a bus stop. One of the most interesting aspects of the project is the cistern system that channels rainwater. The cistern tank and pump are located in the building’s underground garage, enabling the property to harvest rainwater and use it for irrigation. This reduces residents’ water bills, and – by reducing runoff – lessens the load on the City’s wastewater treatment system.
